7 Simple Home Repairs to Save Cash
Sometimes people procrastinate fixing things. However, when certain damages are quickly fixed, it becomes a huge money saver on the long run.
1. Fixing Leaks
The insistent drip-drip of a leaking faucet means money down the drain. Moreover, they also stain fixtures and can easily deplete prepaid credit card accounts. Fix leaks as soon as soon as possible. The most common cause of leaks is worn out washers. This piece of metal is very inexpensive and replacing it will only take minutes.
2. Caulking
Leaks on doors and windows during winter months can greatly contribute to a higher heating bill. A tube of rope caulk costs way less than paying for the operation of an AC units in a home full of holes. Caulking must also be done in sinks, countertops and bathtubs. If left unattended, leaks caused by moisture can seep in to the walls which once broken costs a lot of money to repair.
3. Insulating
Proper insulation is the quickest way to get rid of a sky rocketing energy bill. Moreover, expensive repair costs of a bursting and freezing pipe on winter can be avoided. And, once an attic is sufficiently insulated, heat can’t escape into the roof to cause ice dams.
4. Installing thermostats
Paying for a programmable thermostat with a visa prepaid card is a good investment. They help avoid AC and heating costs yet keep an empty house at a comfortable temperature. They are very useful in winters since regulating heating systems can help avoid the bursting of pipes.
5. Cleaning Carpets
This must be under regular maintenance but some people are too lazy to run even the lightest vacuum cleaner. Keeping a carpet in its top condition can lengthen its life span. Moreover, regular cleaning can help avoid the mold and mildew build up.
6. Changing Filters
AC and Heating units needs regular filter change. This will not only help the appliances run smoothly, it also minimizes energy costs. Filters are so cheap and easy to install. If they don’t know how to do it, they can hire a service man and handle things on their own after observing how it is done.
7. Exterminating Pests
Getting rid of these icky creatures is sometimes a tough job. Pests not only can cause diseases they can also ruin a home’s foundation in no time. But with regular pest control, cockroaches, rats and whatnot can be kept at bay.
Prevention is always better than cure. But in case of homes, keeping major repairs at bay with a quick fix is always the best choice.
